Galatasaray won the Turkish Super Lig title on Sunday evening with a 3-0 win over Kayserispor, emphasized by a record-breaking goal from Victor Osimhen.
Riding an eight-game winning streak and fresh from their Turkish cup victory only four days earlier, the Lions organized Kayserispor in Rams Park and need a victory to secure the title.
The Nigerian star opened the score in the 26th minute, on his way to Gabriel Sara's Cross past goalkeeper Bilal Bayazıt.
With that strike, Osimhen scored his 36th goal of the 2024/25 season and further moved him for the 24-year record of Mario Jardel for most goals by a foreign player in a single campaign in Turkey.
One of the most heart-warming moments came when the two-year-old daughter of Super Eagles, Hailey, announced her father's goal-what a delightful ovation of the home crowd encouraged.
Barıs Alper Yılmaz doubled the lead of the lions ten minutes later, before goalkeeper Fernando Muslera sealed the victory with a rare goal from the penalty spot.
The Galatasaray from Okan Buruk has now protected a record-expanding 25th Turkish league title, with two more games that are still over in the season.
Apart from any surprises, Osimhen – who scored 25 league goals this season – is on schedule to claim the title of the top scorer, who before Poland International Krzysztof PiÄ…tek, who has 21 goals to his name.
Will Osimhen leave Galatasaray?
The future of the former African player of the year at the Istanbul -based club remains uncertain when his loan period of Napoli comes to an end.
Osimhen joined the Turkish Super Lig-side on loan in September 2024, after he was dropped from the first teams of the Serie A side of Antonio Conte after a failed Deadline Day movement to Saudi Pro League Club Al Ahli.
While Galatasaray likes to hold the Nigerian striker, various factors make it difficult to stay in Istanbul.
The striking versions of Osimhen have attracted the attention of the best European giants such as Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Barcelona and Juventus.
The interest has also emerged from Saudi Arabic clubs. However, the striker has remained tight about his future and declares that he will decide at the end of the season.
Although he has spoken very much about his experience in Galatasaray and the support of fans, he has not excluded any movement elsewhere.
