Michael Owen believes that an Arsenal star should call his teammate in the dressing room after the Gunners were held to a 2-2 draw by Crystal Palace on Wednesday.
The Gunners needed a victory to keep their fading title hopes alive and at the same time confirm second place, but were brought back twice by their London rivals.
The second equalizer of Palace came after William Saliba gave the ball cheaply to Jean-Philippe Mateta, who turned from Martin Odegaard before he subtly over David Raya and the net in the net.
Saliba's fault was clearly for everyone to see and only a week after he had given Real Madrid a goal in the Bernabeu, but Owen was also not impressed by Raya's positioning and claimed that Saliba had to be angry with his goalkeeper because he had his goal without accompanying and had not a viable passing option.
Owen spoke on Premier League productions: 'Everyone knows that Raya is taking big perspectives. But as soon as the angle is closed, as soon as Saliba is about to go wide to wood, or possibly (back in), Raya would have to sprint back to make his new approach in case it returns.
'He [Raya] Was never, ever in the game and I feel sorry for Saliba, because he only makes one mistake in many ways.
'If I was Saliba there, I would scream the dressing room to Raya, screaming against him.
'Okay, make a corner, that's fine, sometimes help me, but if you are in doubt, you just get into a position where I can always surrender to you. If I am in trouble, at least I can go safe. '
Saliba and Raya are the key to Arsenal's defensive firmness in the past two seasons, and the Gunners have admitted the least goals in the Premier League this period.
However, Owen is convinced that they still have to demand more from each other in such a critical phase of the season.
The men of Mikel Arteta will be confronted with PSG next week in the first stage of their semi -final of the Champions League and have to cut their valuable mistakes if they continue to the final.
Arsenal has fallen 18 points from winning positions in the competition in 2024-25, leaving Liverpool on the edge of their 20th title.
Ex-Gunners Defender Martin Keown is concerned that 'carelessness' has become a problem for Arsenal, and that they may have achieved their attention from the ball in their own country for their shot on European glory.
'I think Saliba, when I work with him [I am saying]”Do not switch off,” said Keown.
'The game they played against Real Madrid, the keeper rolled it out to him just after she scored and it is as if he has no photo, he was not alert.
'It is now twice that has happened in successive games – he simply has to be tightened.
“I think it will be torn because of the carelessness with Arsenal who only tried to see games, tonight was a victory not to get injuries, because there is a huge game and I think if you are just 100 percent lower, you make mistakes.”
