Michael Owen focused on Man United's players after Sunday's 1-0 defeat in Tottenham, let his club burn in 15th place in the Premier League and stood up for their worst season ever.
The goal of James Maddison was sufficient to bring a third defeat in the last four league matches in front of Ruben Amorim with only 12 points that separate them from the relegation zone.
Man United has lost 12 of 25 Premier League matches this season. They have not had any more defeats in their first 25 games since 1973-74 when they were relegated from the top flight.
The United Squad was hit hard by injuries to the extent that Amorim's Bank in Tottenham Hotspur Stadium contained eight teenagers – with only one first team between them – and Victor Lindelof.
But Owen, who scored 17 goals in 52 matches during his time at Old Trafford, aimed his finger on the more experienced players who were held flat when Maddison jumped to hand in after Andre Onana only the efforts of Lucas Bergvall could Parry Bergvall.
Owen blamed the back of the three of Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui and told Premier League productions: 'What frustrates me more than something about the team is that those center halves do nothing during the game.
'They hardly pick up players, but when you ask them to do one job – stop the man who photographs – they also sleep with that.
'We have seen so many clips in the first half when there is no one to pick up, there are three who literally do nothing. They will not penetrate, they are not going to mark anyone, they are just there. '
Life doesn't look like it will soon be easier for Amorim's men. They then travel to Everton for the kick -off of the Saturday lunch Premier League.
No team has secured more points than Everton's 13 since David Moyes returned to Goodison Park last month and they will have their chances of hurting more to Man United.
Despite all the misery, Amorim's side remains hunting for two trophies. His side host Fulham in the fifth round of the FA Cup and will find out with whom they will be confronted in the last 16 phase of the Europa League on Friday.
