Paddy Pimblett reveals one of his biggest dreams that’s ‘unheard of’ in UFC today

There is something that Paddy Pimblett has always wanted to do.

The #9-ranking UFC light weight competition has Ilia Topuria in his visor and is confronted with the champion in the Octagon after his first round knockout about Charles Oliveira in June.

UFC CEO Dana White was not a fan of the fiery face-off and it is likely that Paddy Pimblett has to fight again to earn his title.

Together with undisputed UFC Gold, the former Cage Warriors champion recently revealed a dream of him.

Paddy Pimblett wants to fight 2-3 times in a one-night tournament

Pimblett, born in 1995, says he would like to fight as they did in the 90s.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship started in 1993 with a One-Night tournament format.

At UFC 1 we saw Royce Gracie fighting and win three times in one night when there were no gloves, hardly any rules and no time limit.

With hunting safety in mind, UFC 23 marked the last UFC event in 1999 to use a One-Night tournament format.

“I only started fighting Pro MMA with 2013, 2013,” Pimblett said on the podcast of Chattin 'Pony.

“I always wanted to do a One-Night tournament,” Pimblett revealed.

“But now it doesn't happen … I wish they would do that. I wish they would do a tournament. I would like to have three fights in one night or even just two, but they just don't do it anymore.

“It's just unheard of,” Pimblett said about One-Night tournaments where hunters compete several times.

Dan Henderson says that UFC 'can easily return a night of tournaments

Former StrikeForce and Pride champion Dan Henderson knows a few things about fighting three times in one night.

In the year 2000, Henderson won all three of his fights to win a title in Japan. Before that, Henderson had fought twice in one night on three different occasions.

The retired Henderson claims that the UFC can possibly revive the tournament size if they really wanted to.

“It would be nice for them,” Henderson told Pimblett.

“They could do it easily. It may not happen in America, but other countries would allow it.

“I don't know why they wouldn't allow it here,” Henderson said about the United States.

“They do it that way in the ultimate hunter, they only have two rounds, possible three. So was that tournament in which I sat …”
