Simone Inzaghi was delighted with the patience his Inter team showed early in Monday's match against Lazio, which they eventually defeated 6-0.
Inter claimed an immediate win to move into third place in Serie A, three points behind leaders Atalanta.
Lazio came out of the blocks quickly but the defending champions grew into the match and stormed to victory, scoring quick goals either side of half-time in an excellent performance that silenced the Stadio Olimpico.
“In the first 25 minutes we were good at keeping distance with a Lazio team that played well technically,” former Lazio boss Inzaghi told reporters.
“We also grew a lot technically then. We managed to score two goals and the third at the beginning of the second half, ending a match against a team of absolute value, punished by absences and injuries. We also had some players out, but I'm happy.
“We played against a team that won sixteen [their previous] 22 games [in all competitions]and when they lost, they didn't deserve it.
“We needed a match with a lot of speed and determination, and we did that because the Italian championship always has so many pitfalls for you.”
For the first time in Inter's history, six different players were on the scoresheet in an away match in Serie A as Hakan Calhanoglu, Federico Dimarco, Nicolo Barella, Denzel Dumfries, Carlos Augusto and Marcus Thuram all found the net.

Three of them – Dumfries, Dimarco and Calhanoglu – finished the match with a goal and an assist.
“It's not easy to give individual performances after a performance like that,” Inzaghi said.
“[Stefan] De Vrij has extraordinary consistency, Lautaro [Martinez] played a great match, for me it's like he scored a goal.
“He was very happy in the dressing room, he has to keep working like that and he will get satisfaction.
“We must continue like this. It is a very balanced championship with many teams experiencing positive development.”
Inter have now equaled the highest number of away wins in a calendar year in Serie A: 13, which they also achieved in 2007 and 2021.
They have now scored 47 away goals in Serie A in 2024 and set a new club record for goals away from home in a calendar year in the top flight.
