The NFL has been set to expand its brand around the world and that has become clear in recent years with the increased number of games that are being held abroad. In November Spain will organize his first NFL game, with Santiago Bernabeu from Real Madrid to play the home base for the Miami Dolphins for a weekend.
Los Blancos won the struggle to organize the first competition in 2025 and defeated the Metropolitano to become the first stadium that is organizing an NFL game in Spain. However, there is probably a lot of appetite for more games, with a large financial stimulus at the NFL show.
It was between the Chicago Bears and the dolphins about whom the home team would be for the inaugural NFL match in Spain, as the two teams that have market expansion rights in the country. Now the NFL has updated their global expansion program and added the Chiefs of Kansas City as the third side with market expansion rights in Spain.
This means that one of those three parties probably organizes the next game in Spain, and it could mean that the biggest star in the American game, Patrick Mahomes, will touch in the coming years. Sport also notes that Barcelona wants to follow in the footsteps of Real Madrid and organize an NFL game as soon as their Camp Nou -Renovations are completed. This was planned for 2026, but several delays mean that it is not yet clear when the third level is completed.
The Chiefs also have marketing rights for Austria, the United Kingdom and Ireland, so there is by no means any guarantee that they would be the next side that comes to Spain. It still has to be confirmed whether there will also be an NFL game in 2026, but the bears and leaders would be one of the most important candidates to appear if so.
