Paul Merson does not believe that Manchester United Marcus Rashford should have left, but he proposed a possible replacement that could make Ruben Amorim's side much better.
Rashford left Old Trafford on Sunday evening when he joined the Premier League -rival Aston Villa, initially on loan until the end of the season.
The 27-year-old, who could make his move a permanent in the summer as a villa, chose to pay a transfer costs of £ 40 million, had no longer played for United since 12 December after he had dropped out with Amorim.
On the day Rashford left, United lost 2-0 to Crystal Palace – Amorim's eighth defeat in his first 19 games in the track. Both goals from Palace were scored by the French attacker Jean-Philippe Mateta.
Former Arsenal -star Merson praised Mateta after the game, but he was critical of Amorim and claimed that the Portuguese boss could be made to look very stupid when Rashford shines in Villa Park.
“I think the manager no longer has any ideas,” said Merson on Sky Sports. “What he did with Rashford is amazing.
'I think his task is at stake with Rashford. If he gets 10 [goals] in 10 [games for Villa] You would seriously ask questions: “What are you doing?”
'United needs a big strong boy in advance. They have to get Mateta. But they won't do that because he plays for Palace.
'He is 100 times better than what they have at Man United, except [Amad] Diallo. '
Mateta has been a palace player since January 2021 when he arrived from Mainz in Germany.
Since then he has scored 39 goals in 118 performances for the Eagles, including 32 in 103 Premier League matches.
Palace paid about £ 15 million for Mateta, including a first loan costs in the £ 2.5 million region before they completed a permanent deal.
He is currently under contract with Palace until June 2027.
The result of Sunday in Old Trafford saw Palace above United Climbing in the Premier League table.
