Paul Pogba said during his revelation in the new club Monaco on Thursday a return to the French national team “would of course still be a dream and a bonus for me”.
The winner of the World Cup 2018 has 91 caps for France, but since March 2022 Les Bleus has no longer represented due to injuries and a suspension of 18 months before doping that ended four months ago.
“It is the wish of every French football player who represents the national team of France, but there are phases,” said the 32-year-old.
“Today I am at phase one: coming back and performing well.
“There are places to win and you have to earn them because it is a very, very good group, a great team,” he added.
In the absence of Pogba, France reached the final of the World Cup 2022, but was defeated on penalties by an Argentina inspired by Lionel Messi.
They also reached the semi-final of the European Championship last year, before they lost 2-1 to the final winners Spain.
Midfielder Pogba signed a two -year contract with Ligue 1 Club Monaco on Saturday in an attempt to restart his career.
The former player of Manchester United has made only 12 performances in the past three seasons due to injuries, suspension and a extortion case in which he was the victim.
Pogba failed a drug test after a match for Juventus in August 2023 and has been free since March to return to football, although his contract with the Italian giants had ended last year.
In 2024, his brother Mathias was sentenced to three years in prison, with two years suspended, for his role in a conspiracy to extort 13 million euros ($ 15.3 million) of Pogba in 2022.
After having won four Italian league titles with Juventus and the Europa League 2017 with English Side Man United, Pogba is now playing club football in his home country for the first time in his professional career.
