Paul Pogba transfer admission made amid Man Utd links – ‘We will make space’

Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi admits he will “try to find space” for champion players amid links with Paul Pogba.

The French midfielder is a man without a club after his drug ban ended and Juventus opted to tear up his contract. It means the former Manchester United man is looking for his next employer and a return to his homeland is being touted.

De Zerbi made waves at Marseille last summer, but the former Champions League winners are still far behind PSG domestically and need more quality if they are to close the gap.

January is the next chance for the former Brighton boss to enter the market and he has made it clear that he wants to bring in players with winning experience. His name was checked by Pogba, who has won numerous league titles but has not discussed signing him with the club's bosses.

He said: “I would like to have only champions in my team. Pogba has always been a champion, but to be honest we never talked about it during my conversations with the staff.

“In January we mainly have to find players for the needs we have. If champions come, we will of course try to find space and ensure that they can live together. That would be absolutely no problem for me. If you have top players “It's not my problem, it's that of the opponents.”

Pogba, now 31, has his doubts and many believe he is yet to become the player he was once tipped to be. His United spell was littered with inconsistent performances, but he insists he is more motivated than ever to make an impact.

He told Sky Sports: “I don't want to lose the level I'm at now. If I can surpass it, then this is what I want. I'm still the same player, but with a different hunger. I'm more motivated. I I'm hungrier. I'll appreciate the game more than before after it was taken from me. I realized how important it was to me.”

Pogba, a World Cup winner himself, also has plans to feature for Les Blues again but acknowledged the struggle ahead. He said: “I hope so. It's definitely in my mind. I have to be ready for that. There are players who deserve to play and I have to win my place back. I am ready to fight.”
