Paul Scholes thinks Ruben Amorim Martin Zubimendi would like to sign after his comments about the real Sociedad -midweek in midweek.
Zubimendi, 26, has been associated with the whole host of the best Premier League teams in the last 12 months and came close to Liverpool in the summer before they decided against the move on the eleventh hour.
It emerged in January that Arsenal will probably be the destination of Zubimendi in the summer with a deal.
And Scholes thinks that Manchester United would also like to sign the playmaker after listening to Amorim Wax Lyrical about the Spain International on Thursday evening.
“He is a top player who can change a team, especially in that position,” Amorim said for the Europa League victory of United. “He is a position that can read and block transitions. He is also the first man in the structure, I know the player very well, everyone knows that he is a top player who can change the team.”
After listening to Amorim on TNT sport, Scholes speculated: “From that interview, the Zubimendi manager keeps very nice. If we sell three or four players, we might be able to buy him, but tonight is a big evening.”
It is known that Zubimendi has a release clause of £ 51 million in his contract. United is likely to be on the market for midfielders with question marks about the future of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro, but their financial situation is gloomy.
Amorim has broadly worked with the team he inherited from Erik ten Hag with Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven the only senior signing sessions of the club in January.
The Chief Executive of the club, Omar Berrada, insisted that Amorim would have cash to spend this summer on the success of the Europa League of Thursday evening – even if they do not fully qualify for Europe.
“We speak with Ruben [Amorim] Very often. Ruben has a good relationship with Jason Wilcox. They both share the vision of how they want to see the team play. “
He continued: “It's about planning well for the summer transfer window and have a clear idea of which players we want to bring. We make a number of great efforts to get us in the best financial position. Even when we are outside of Europe – I think we will be able to invest in the team.
“Our ambition is to win tonight and win the Europa League and to be in the Champions League, where I think we belong.”
