Manchester United will take on the Premier League rivals Tottenham in the Europa League final on Wednesday evening and a former Red Devil has told Ruben Amorim to make a bold change
Paul Scholes has told Ruben Amorim to change the position of Bruno Fernandes just one day for the Europa League final. Manchester United will take on the Premier League rival Tottenham in the final in Bilbao on Wednesday.
She would not only hand over silverware in Spain, but also the location of the Red Devils in the Champions League of next season Stamp. Fernandes, who might lift the trophy, was the key to the Run from United to the final.
The Portuguese playmaker scored seven goals in the Europa League this season and offered another five assists. Despite that form, Scholes believes that the best way of acting in the final against Spurs would be to give him a slightly more defensive role.
Writing in a column for TNT sports, the United Icon said: “I would try to start amad and start [Alejandro] Garnacho in the final because they are United's largest target threats, together with Bruno Fernandes,
“The best way is perhaps to drop Fernandes in the central midfield role next to Casemiro, who has worked well in the past, especially in European competitions. I think Amorim will start [Rasmus] Hojlund in the final because he has not been so bad in the Europa League.
“He looked like a real threat and scored some important goals, but in the Premier League he was really poor. If Amorim wanted to change things, he would like to play Bruno Fernandes like a false nine, just as Erik ten Hag did in the FA Cup final victory of last season over Manchester City.
“I know he also tried Kobbie Mainoo in that position, but I don't think he's suitable for it and Fernandes is a bit more mobile. Now that Fernandes is playing like a false center-forward, you could also start with Casemiro and [Manuel] Ugarte in the central midfield.
“There are plenty of selectionilemmas for Amorim, but I only hope he is doing well. The problem is that the manager does not know what he will get from most of his players in the day.”

Regardless of his position, the final in Bilbao could possibly represent the penultimate appearance of Fernandes as a United player. He has been associated with movements on both Real Madrid and Saudi Aarabia – although Amorim has completely excluded a sale.
After the final, United has another competition to navigate before the end of the season. They compete against Champions League-Chasing Aston Villa in Old Trafford on the last day of the Premier League campaign.
