Pedri and Gavi renewals at Barcelona could face major delay

Barcelona has been in discussions with Pedri and Gavi's representatives about new contracts for several months. However, major delays may occur.

Sport details that Barcelona are waiting for a court decision on the registrations of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, but if this goes against them they will have to sell more assets to allow them to play in the second half of the season. However, if they don't, Barcelona will be forced to postpone the contracts of Gavi and Pedri.

That asset sale will be worth at least €120 million, and would allow the Blaugrana to fit those new deals into their salary cap. Otherwise they will have to wait until summer.

Given all the noise coming out of the club and the local media being positive about both wanting to stay at the club, it seems unlikely that this will be a major problem for their future. However, it could have a knock-on effect on their ability to hand new contracts to the likes of Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong, who, like Pedri and Gavi, are signed until 2026.
