Pep explains rants at players – after scoldings to trio captured in documentary

Pep Guardiola has opened up about his fiery rants against players in the Manchester City dressing room.

Guardiola, 53, has had a wonderful spell at City since arriving in 2016, winning the Premier League in six of his eight full seasons.

The Spaniard, who previously coached Barcelona and Bayern Munich, also won the Champions League in 2023, winning a total of 18 honours.

Mail Sport reported on Tuesday how Guardiola will call his time at the Etihad after agreeing to sign a new contract in a major boost for the club.

And insight has been given into his character following the release of 'Together: 4-In-A-Row', City's in-house documentary that marked their fourth consecutive Premier League title last season.

In the 90-minute show, Guardiola can occasionally be seen abusing three of his key players, Phil Foden, Erling Haaland and Rodri.

And in the documentary, the Spaniard revealed why he occasionally swears at people in the dressing room.

“I'm not proud right after the game when I'm angry because of my emotions and I do that to the players,” he explained.

'I'm human and I make mistakes and I don't like that. I don't like it. At that moment I can't control myself.'

During the documentary – which charts a tumultuous campaign that only saw City cross the line on the final day – Guardiola lost patience with Haaland as the Norwegian missed several golden chances in the Manchester derby during the March build-up.

It seemed to work as the striker scored in the second half as City made an exciting and crucial comeback to win the match 3-1.

He also unleashed on Rodri when he was sent off against Nottingham Forest in September 2023, with Guardiola asking the midfielder to explain his moment of madness after wrapping his hands around Morgan Gibbs-White's throat.

Rodri then apologized to his teammates.

However, Guardiola's hairdryer treatment was best known to Foden after City dropped points at home to Crystal Palace in December 2023 when they conceded two late goals.

City had been 2-0 up but Jean-Philippe Mateta pulled a late goal back before Foden brought him down in the penalty area in stoppage time – and Michael Olise rightly converted the equaliser.

Guardiola was furious when he said angrily: 'Phil, you don't touch the opponent in the bloody box. It's unacceptable, Phil Foden, unacceptable!'

He then shouted to the entire team, “You're not boys, you're not teenagers. Did I say something when we dropped points against Tottenham and Liverpool? Did I say something? Tell me. I blame you? Am I saying something? F****** hell, f****** hell.”

“Here (pointing to his head), use it. Here, you have to use it! Damn hell. Damn it,” Guardiola added as he walked around the room.
