Pep Guardiola expressed his disgust in TV expert Jamie Carragher After asking if Erling Haaland skipped the Champions League exit against Real Madrid on Wednesday evening because he was intimidated by defender Antonio Rudiger.
Haaland, who sustained a knee injury against Newcastle last weekend, was mentioned among the substitutes of the city in the Bernabeu, but did not arrive when the men of Guardiola crashed a total of 6-3. He continues to doubt the Premier League collision on Sunday against Liverpool.
Carragher said on the American network CBS: 'Let me work this out, Haaland went to the manager in the morning and said he is not fit?
'Do you think that has something to do with Rudiger? Is that because Rudiger plays?
“He's on the couch, so he can't be injured. I never went to the manager on the morning of a game and said I am not fit.
“So he's injured, right? It's Rudiger-Itit, right? Is that what we say here? '
Former city player and Carragher's Co-Analyt Micah Richards immediately punished the idea and answered: “Come on Jamie, you're better than that.”
And the face of Guardiola was filled with anger when the subject of the comments was discussed.
“Oh, God, he said that? Jamie Carragher said that? Oh God. “said the city boss.
'Don't laugh. I don't know why he makes that suspicious, do you know that? Did he say that Haaland didn't want to play the game? It's not fun – and it's not true.
“He (Haaland) was crazy to play the game. He had a problem with his knee and he couldn't play. '
Guardiola then left the media room and feared that he would escalate the issue even further if he continued to speak.
Haaland played against Rudiger in 2023 when Manchester City Real Madrid beat 4-0 to reach the Champions League final they won.
