Pep Guardiola and FIVE Man City stars are given BRUTAL ratings by L’Equipe

Pep Guardiola and five of his Manchester City attackers received humiliating ratings from the French newspaper L'Equipe after their capitulation to PSG.

City led 2-0 after 56 minutes at the Parc des Princes before the French champions somehow scored four goals in a rain-lashed second half, sending them into a spiral.

PSG dominated and punished City for their weakness and Guardiola's men risked an exit from the Champions League on the final matchday.

They need to beat Club Brugge next week to get into the knockout play-offs – and would then be paired with a ranked opponent on a two-match draw to try to reach the last 16.

The likes of Brest and Celtic have had better campaigns than City and their woes have only been exacerbated by L'Equipe's brutal ratings.

Guardiola, Kevin De Bruyne, Ruben Dias, Mateo Kovacic, Manuel Akanji and Ederson all chipped in for 4/10 and the team average was just 4.6.

L'Equipe blamed Guardiola for the team's demise, writing: “In line with his tactical choices over the past month, the Spaniard clearly agreed to cede possession to PSG (only 36 percent) , which physically exhausted his team in the match. end of the match, which I ended up paying for.

'Even though the arrival of Jack Grealish turned out to be wise, the same cannot be said about Matheus Nunes' starting position as right back.'

Indeed, City were on the back foot for large parts of the match, surrendering a total of 26 shots to the hosts while they had just nine themselves.

Bernardo Silva was the only Cityzens star to score a six. Erling Haaland, Nunes, Josko Gvardiol and Phil Foden were all rated 5/10.

L'Equipe claimed Haaland 'struggled to impose himself physically' while Foden 'disappeared in the second half'.

PSG seemed to have taken the lead before halftime, but Achraf Hakimi's effort was disallowed due to offside due to Nuno Mendes' knee.

Substitute Jack Grealish and Haaland gave City a fortuitous lead early in the second half with goals from close range following some comical mishaps at the back from PSG.

But City's comfort did not last long and by the hour mark PSG were back on level terms after finishes from Ousmane Dembele and Bradley Barcola.

PSG took a 3-2 lead in the 78th minute thanks to Joao Neves and Goncalo Ramos rubbed salt in the wounds with a goal in injury time.

“We suffered and they were better, with better intensity to win games,” Guardiola said. 'In the big stages, the big teams, we have a hard time. We must accept it.

'We have one last chance against Bruges. If we don't do it, it's because we don't deserve it.

“We have to defend with the ball, otherwise it is impossible to play well,” he added. 'Keep the ball, the extra pass. The connection with Bernardo (Silva) and (Mateo) Kovacic was not possible or not good and we could not make the process. I tried different things, but we couldn't keep the ball.'

The City boss has blamed the home games against Feyenoord and Inter for their precarious position in the league and that was echoed by the scorer of the opening goal, Grealish.

“Usually in these moments we are so good,” Grealish said. “It's happened too many times this season; when we have scored one goal, two goals ahead, even three against Feyenoord, and we have not been able to control the game and finish it.

'It's strange because in every other season we have been so good at controlling the game in these moments. I don't know if it's a matter of confidence because we know that for most of this season, especially before Christmas, we weren't really at the level that we know we can do.

'But it is up to ourselves to try to change that in the future. We have so many players on the pitch when we are two goals up, who are so good with the ball, at keeping hold of it. But we haven't been doing that lately and that's on us.'
