Manchester City is confronted with a race by time to keep up with their team to meet both the Premier League and the Champions League requirements.
Pep Guardiola has made it clear that he thinks he has too many players – but the need to reduce figures is also driven by the prospect of having to leave bodies completely out of the manager's plans.
