Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has told Kevin De Bruyne to be “completely honest against himself” in determining his future.
De Bruyne is from a contract at the end of the season and is linked to a relocation of the Etihad. The midfielder also admitted last summer that he would consider moving to Saudi Aarabia and tell the Belgian Outlet HLN: “At my age you have to be open to everything. You are talking about incredible amounts of money in what the end of my Can his career.
'Sometimes you have to think about that. If I play there [Saudi Arabia] I can earn an incredible amount of money for two years. Before that I had to play football for 15 years. I can't even reach that amount. Then you have to think about what that could mean afterwards. But at the moment I don't have to think about that yet. “
De Bruyne has struggled with injury problems in recent years and he is limited to only 11 Premier League Start so far this season. And to the question of the future of his captain, Guardiola said: “I think he should decide in that situation, that is the most important thing.
“He is completely honest against himself, to decide what he feels and what he can do in the next period of his life. He is 34 in the summer and he has to decide, as what happened with David Silva for example.”
David Silva was also 34 when he left City on a free transfer in 2020, with the midfielder returning to Spain with Real Sociedad. Silva spent three seasons in Sociedad before retired in 2023 after an ACL injury.
De Bruyne has meanwhile admitted in November that he “has no idea how long” he left at the highest level. “To be honest, I don't know,” he said when he was asked if this season would be his last in the city.
“It is clear that when I started the season, I knew things would happen and spoke would happen. But then I unfortunately had that thing [problem] Against Brentford [in September]. So I actually posted everything [about my future] aside. I hoped to be out for a few days and it would take eight or nine weeks.
“So at the moment I prefer to get better first and I see how I am and the rest will come. I am not really obsessed with things now. There have not been many conversations. I just want to play good football again.
“As long as I feel it [I can make a difference to the team]That is a good indicator that I can still play at the highest level. So that is the only certainty I need for me. But I have no idea how long that will stay [the case]. “
