Pep Guardiola reveals why he is NOT surprised by Man City’s dismal run

Pep Guardiola has admitted he is not surprised by Manchester City's current problems.

City have enjoyed great success under Guardiola and have become accustomed to long winning streaks.

However, things have deteriorated recently, with City losing their last five games in all competitions.

Guardiola's side were beaten 4-0 at home by Tottenham on Saturday as their hopes of retaining the Premier League title suffered another blow.

Before that, City were defeated by Brighton, Sporting Lisbon and Bournemouth and suffered another defeat to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup.

Guardiola expressed his belief that it was inevitable that City would go through a difficult period at some point.

As reported by The Mirror, Guardiola said: 'It's not like we've been like this for years, but I said before that it should have happened sooner or later.

“I know we won and won again, but sooner or later you get this situation for many reasons, few reasons why.

“It's not 'this is why', it's the little things that go wrong from the start of the season and they keep getting worse. Now we have to face it. You can't say anything, the situation is that you have to keep going, my friends, keep going. We've done it in the past. In terms of results, not as bad as now, but we did it, faced the situation and made progress.'

Guardiola stated that it is now his duty to help City return to victory.

He said: 'We don't expect to lose important games often, but it has happened and we have to find a way.

“When we started losing, I told people, 'I have to find a way.' I have to. It is my duty and responsibility to find a way to be more consistent, get better and win games.

City will be determined to bounce back when they host Feyenoord in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

After the match against Sporting, City faces an intriguing match against Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Liverpool have already built an eight-point lead at the top of the table and defeat for City would make it extremely difficult for them to challenge for the title.

Guardiola recently ended speculation about his future by signing a new two-year contract lasting until the summer of 2027.

However, he faces one of the biggest tests of his managerial career as he strives to turn City's fortunes around.

The absence of Rodri, who will miss the rest of the season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, has had a major impact on City and Guardiola's team has also had to deal with other significant absences.
