Pep ‘loves’ idea of international management but journey at City not over yet

Pep Guardiola has no plans to quickly leave Manchester City, but the Spaniard has often thought about what it would be like to guide an international team and says he would like to take on the challenge of a World Cup or Eurocampagne.

“I would like to be in a World Cup, in a euro, a Copa America,” Guardiola told Reuters.

“I have always thought about it. But it depends on many, many things. If it happens, it's fine. If it doesn't happen, it's also more than fine.”

After winning 12 domestic top titles in Spain, Germany and England, Guardiola underwent a trophy campaign with City last season, a shock for the system after so much success.

While he came in for some stabbing criticism of the failure of his elite team on all fronts, Guardiola said he was not interested in “the evidence of the haters wrong” when City started again next season.

“It is to prove myself that I can do it, I don't want the feelings that are left last season,” he added.

“Because when we win, the wine tastes better afterwards, you sleep. I don't know a manager who loses and sleeps games like a baby. It doesn't happen. You have to worry. That belongs to our lives.”

Top of Guardiolas 'To-Do List' is to win another Champions League with City and if they cross paths again with Real Madrid, his Nemesis Carlo Ancelotti will not be in the opposite Dugout after the Italian was in charge of Brazil.

Only mention of Ancelotti's departure was enough to conjure up a smile on the lips of Guardiola.

The couple faced each other five times in the Knock Rounds of the Champions League, where the Italian came out one after all.

“I'm so happy for him,” said Guardiola. “But I am so happy that he is no longer in Madrid, because he hits me all the time. That I no longer have to process it.”

The Spaniard added that it was unrealistic to expect him to win everything every year and said that even the most successful athletes lose more than they win.

“I won 12 domestic competitions in 16 years. It is not bad, I would say. But you can't always win. I can't always win the Champions League,” he added.

“Michael Jordan, the best athlete I have ever seen in my life, won six NBA championships in 15 years. Tiger Woods, an incredible golfer, Jack Nicklaus, I don't know how much he has. But they lost more big slams than they have won. It happens.”

Guardiola, enjoying a short vacation in Barcelona and said he is only trying to lead a “normal life” before football withdraws, with the city playing in the renewed club World Cup in the United States from 14 June to 13 July.

“Wake up later and don't be with the players. Try to live what a normal life would be,” said Guardiola.

“Go to a concert, put on the couch, read books. I can play golf if my body allows me. Look series that people introduce me during the season to see, as I can't.

“And I want to tell you something. Usually I will do the same things as you in your life.”
