Phil Foden shared his thoughts about the turbulent season of Manchester City and the 'Gutting' room of former English head coach Gareth Southgate in a new interview.
The player of the PFA players of the year has passed an uneven season with the serial champions, with the side of Pep Guardiola in unknown waters prior to the sharp end of their 2024-25 campaign after a few years of unparalleled successes.
Man City remains contrary to one piece of silverware at the end of the term – the FA Cup – after unusually early outputs in the Carabao Cup and Champions League.
The players of Guardiola are also at the certain moment of the top of the Premier League table, 22 points on League Liverpool with 48 after 29 games played after.
The Manchester side is fifth in the table and has not won back-to-back competition matches since January.
But Foden has sworn to learn a lesson from the struggle of Man City and told GQ that the goal of the players is to remain 'positive'.
“I didn't really get used to it in this position, so it's just something you have to take on the chin,” said Foden.
'Unfortunately it is just one of those seasons. We can still finish it strongly and we just have to stay positive and trust everything we have done and stay together. '
During his challenges on the field, Foden added that he had taken comfort in family life.
The midfielder shares three children, including Social Media Star Ronnie and daughter True, with his partner Rebecca Cooke, and the 24-year-old wanted to emphasize the important perspective that they bring into his life.
“I like to be older,” Foden added. 'If things are not going well, if you have not won, you don't think you have played well, it helps to go home to your children – just to see them smiles and kidding, certainly helps me.
“It gives you the feeling that there is more in life than football.”
Although FODEN was unable to match his superlative season 2023-24, the player earned a call-up for the international break to the Maiden England Camp of the new Tuchel manager.
FODEN has long been considered one of the former main field of the former main field of Gareth Southgate, but explained that he enjoys the challenge to let his teeth sink in the arrival of the new atmosphere that Tuchel will create in the national setup.
“We are all looking forward to the new chapter and to see what Thomas is about,” Foden continued. 'I have never worked with him, so it will be a new experience and I am excited to see what he is like.
'Sometimes if there is a new manager, he creates a different atmosphere, so I really hope it will be good.
'Many of us had a lot of respect for Gareth (Southgate), for what he did for us as a person. Go to the (Euro 2024) final and can't win it for him … it was just lips.
'Seeing Gareth Departure was also the lips because he was such a good guy and a good coach. But that is football – things happen and people continue. '
