Ousmane Dembele is an injury in doubt for the second stage of Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League Semi-final collision with Arsenal and PSG have yielded an update about his recovery
Arsenal fan Piers Morgan weighed after Paris Saint-Germain had shared an update on the restoration of Ousmane Dembele of a hamstring injury. Dembele scored the only goal of the game while PSG Arsenal defeated 1-0 in the first stage of their Champions League Semi-Final Collision on Tuesday.
However, the attacker was forced by injury in the second half and his involvement in the second stage next Wednesday was questioned. PSG is facing Strasbourg in Ligue 1 on Saturday and shared an update on Dembele and Defender Presnel Kimpembe prior to the competition.
“After swelling in the second midfoot in his right foot, Presnel Kimpembe will continue to rest in the coming weeks,” said the statement. “Ousmane Dembele has stretched the hamstrings in his right thigh in midweek, but improves his situation. A further update will be provided in due course.”
And Morgan, a lifelong Arsenal fan, has made jokes that he hopes that Dembele will not recover on time for the second stage. “I wish him a completely fast recovery, as long as it doesn't happen on Wednesday,” he wrote on social media.
Dembele has been an important player for PSG this season, with 33 goals in 45 performances in all competitions after he was used more centrally by Luis Enrique. Immediately after the first stage, Enrique tried the Ernst van Dembele's injury.
“He will undergo tests tomorrow,” Enrique said. “It is not serious, it is something very small, but he is probably a doubt for the second stage. We are going to try to get Dembele back on the field.
“But we are a real team. If Ousmane can play, that is better. But if he doesn't, we are still a real team. We have said that since the start of the season.”
Although PSG is 1-0 on the way to the second stage, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta remains convinced that his party can reach the final. “We are during the break,” said Arteta in his press conference after the game.
“The peace and my message is exactly the same and follows us and defeat Real Madrid at home 3-0-that we have to go to Paris and win the game. We are more than able to do it because I saw two very good teams with margins that are so small.
“They had efficiency for the goal and their keeper also made the difference to see the result we have seen tonight. Certainly, when you score a goal and allow one, you have to do that. But we have also done many things well.
“We had a spell in the first half and the game had phases. The first 15-20 minutes, especially that they scored so early in a great combination, playing when the margins are so small, the finish is incredible.
“And then we mainly had one problem that we corrected after 15-20 minutes and we maintained that for the rest of the game, of which I think it turned around. If you want to win the Champions League final, you have to do something special and we have to do something special in Paris to be there.”
