Pioli and Italy: “I enjoy the interactions, but that’s not what I want now”

In an interview with the current edition of La Repubblica, Fiorentina coach Stefano Pioli also spoke to the problems surrounding the national team after the departure of previous coach Luciano Spalletti, with his name also mentioned as a replacement.

Pioli said: “Gattuso is the right man. Was I also linked? I was satisfied, but at the moment it is not what I want. I love the routine of club football. I thought Ranieri would accept to end a wonderful career.”

Pioli also discussed many individual aspects of his new Fiorentina: “I thank Commisso for keeping strong players and key figures such as Kean, De Gea, Gudmundson, Fagioli and Gosens. They are the cornerstone of the project for the next two years.

Kean? I wanted him in Milan, although some people talked bad about him. None of that was true, a serious man who gives everything. And he is a friend of Leao; They are both large. Dzeko? A professor on the field. Outside the field, an example for the younger players.

The attacking midfield? It depends on the other eight, the opponent and the match.

The transfer market? I expect a few signing sessions; The club knows what is needed. I love commission; It is simple and direct. ”

And further objectives are set (“The Champions League must be our goal” and “I know that Fiorentina has not won since 2001; it is a responsibility and a motivation”).

To whom would you devote the trophy? Pioli explains: “For Davide Astori, my captain. I feel his presence even more here, I can't imagine what effect he would have on me.”
