Pisa winger Buffon Jr explains choosing Czech Republic over Italy

The son of Juventus and Italy, keeper of Gigi Buffon, Louis Thomas has decided to go over Italy with the Czech Republic, the nation of his mother.

At the age of 17, Buffon JR already plays senior football for series B Pisa. This week he is at the U18 team of the Czech Republic for a youth tournament that includes ties with England and France.

“I was very happy to come to the meeting and curious about the various football culture,” he told the official website of the football federation of the Czech Republic.

“I spoke with my family and together we decided that it would be better for my football career and my development as a player to play for the Czech Republic.

“My mother was of course very happy, but my father was also enthusiastic because it was my first call-up for the national team.”

He also explained: “I am not doing so well yet, but as soon as I found out that I could get here, I started to learn. I spend about 10 minutes on Duolingo every day.”

Asked how he will approach Italy, Buffon added: “I was born and raised in Italy, but I think to be a professional of 100 percent and to do my work as well as possible, every match must be important for me, whether it is against Italy or another national team
