PL chiefs double down on refusal to let Blues & City have late start next season

The Premier League has doubled with their refusal to leave Manchester City and Chelsea a late start to next season.

Both parties compete in the first extensive Club World Cup of FIFA in the US, which runs from 14 June to 13 July.

With the new domestic campaign to start on August 16, manager Pep Guardiola revealed last year that City had asked their first two games that were postponed. “Thank you very much,” he added with some sarcasm. “It is absolutely not allowed. The Premier League says yes to us? No. Absolutely not. '

Although civil servants insisted that no formal request had been made, the Premier League Chief Football officer Tony Scholes – who also unveiled semi -automated exterior, can now be introduced before the end of this season – now underlines the position of the competition.

“We imposed this, especially by FIFA,” he said. 'So there is an element that says, why would we adjust our competition if they have imposed a competition with which we do not agree?

“The larger element, however, is that we just can't do it,” Scholes added. “The calendar is currently being pressed so much. And we can't afford to postpone it until the start of the season. '

In a briefing with reporters, Scholes claimed that VAR improved the season per season and expressed his support for subsidiary officials. He produced statistics that showed that there had only been 13 VAR errors at this stage compared to 20 last season and added that VAR interventions caused an average delay of 40 seconds per match, a decrease of 66.

Scholes also revealed that the correct decision -making on the field had somewhat improved to 86 percent, which rose to 96.4 percent (from 95.7 percent last season) Post VAR.

He added that there had been 70 VAR interventions in 239 games, similar to less than one in three. Instadion Referee VAR announcements, a characteristic of the EFL Cup, should come into play from next season, while semi-automated outside could arrive in the very near future.

“We make considerable progress (outside),” added ex-Stande City Exec Scholes. 'I hope that at some point this season we can introduce semi-automated technology. But I repeat the point that I have made a number of times. We are not going to introduce it if we have doubts about their functioning at all. We believe that we will assume the best system and the most accurate system, without the chip being in the ball. '
