The enormous wage packages of Premier League referees have been unveiled – and show that they are among the best earners in the country.
Their salaries seem to reflect their growing status in the game and the increasing pressure they are below every week, while billions worldwide are watching.
Figures provided by Chief Referee Howard Webb in a meeting of the 72 EFL clubs revealed what kind of money the officials of the Prem grab, as reported by the Times.
They showed that the average salary for a Premier League referee it between £ 170,000 and £ 180,000.
While the best referees earn around £ 250,000 a year.
Officials are paid for their salary at a basic rate, which is then stimulated by performance bonuses and match costs.
That basic rate varies between £ 72,000 and £ 148,000 and varies according to experience and seniority in the role.
Senior officials, such as Anthony Taylor and Michael Oliver, will probably earn around £ 250,000 a year from their Premier League roles.
While less experienced refs, identified in 'Select Group 1', earns closer at £ 125,000.
When pension and national insurance contributions are processed, it is clear that the PGMOL had on average a total costs of £ 240,000 per referee.
For comparison: the average salary for pilots and air traffic controllers is considerably less at £ 91,208.

While Chief Executives (£ 81,328), IT directors (£ 81,588) and the salaries of specialized doctors (£ 73,320) (£ 73,320) are also all overshadowed by the wage packages of the civil servants.
However, top city workers such as those in finance, insurance and lawyers can earn much more than the referees of the Prem.
