Without many surprises compared to the provisional squadlist that Mauricio Pochettino unveiled a few weeks ago for the upcoming friendly matches of the United States against Turkey and Switzerland, the official schedule of 26 players for this summer's Gold Cup was announced on Thursday.
Important players who miss in USMNT Gold Cup Squad
While important players such as Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie and Gio Reyna will be absent, the Line -Up offers exciting newcomers and offers valuable opportunities for younger talents. The final selection consists largely of those who are currently training in the camp prior to the upcoming friendly competitions, which indicates continuity and strategic development for the national team.
For the first time, the USMNT will contain six players who make their Gold Cup debut – a remarkable aspect of the selection of Pochettino. The team includes goalkeeper Matt Freese and Chris Brady, as well as Nathan Harriel, Alex Freeman, Sebastian Berhalter, Quinn Sullivan and Damion Downs.
One of the most important absences of the Gold Cup team is Sergiño Dest, who has trained with the team. Due to medical considerations and a focus on his complete recovery prior to the critical season 2025-26 that led to the World Cup, the decision to exclude him from the tournament was taken. His place will be filled by John Tolkin.
Pochettino shared his excitement with our football about working with this group, and emphasized his ambition to claim his first title at the helm of the USMNT.
“We are very enthusiastic to work with this group of players and to compete for the championship,” the coach said. “Of course it is our priority to win the tournament and show the right mentality and approach, and we are convinced that these players will take the opportunity.”
