Pochettino wants US soccer to use American winning mentality ahead of World Cup

Mauricio Pochettino, manager of the United States, said he wants to bring the winning mentality of America to the national football team while they are preparing for the World Cup 2026 on Home Turf.

The former Tottenham Hotspur boss has been given the task of leading the US during the showpiece event to be organized together with Canada and Mexico, and although they have suffered some disappointments under Pochettino, he says they are on the right track.

“We have to compete and create a team that can compete in the level we expect,” the Argentinian told the American football podcast in an episode released on Wednesday.

“But I think little by little that we try to evolve together and try to understand what it means to defend and play for a national team like the US, which always requires the best of everyone.”

The US was beaten by Panama in the Concacaf Nations League semi-finals in March and lost the Concacaf Gold Cup final on Sunday against Mexico.

Pochettino knows that there is an expectation for success.

“We represent a country that always wants to be the best in everything they do and that is why we are responsible in football to create that mentality,” he added.

“We are in a process, it is another year of the World Cup and in a very good process, and we are happy in the way things go.”
