Ange Postecoglou believes that Tottenham has reached a point on which even the “good things” they produce will attract an element of criticism.
The Spurs head coach responded to a question about Mathys Tel, who made a last-minute fine to protect a 3-1 victory over Southampton on Sunday, even though Brennan Johnson had the opportunity to complete a hat trick.
The victory of Spurs at Bottom Club Saints – which were relegated during the trial – was their first in five Premier League outings while they were killing 14th in the table and lost 16 league games this season.
“We have scored, we have won. It is incredible. If we are 2-1 up and we get a penalty in the last minute, I want our best penalty contractor to take it,” Postecoglou said.
“One little one against this club is that it was not a winner. The mentality of the winners is to score in the last minute. We scored and somehow everything Tottenham does is negative.”
Tottenham travels to Wolves at the weekend with the third worst record in the division, but then returned to Europa League promotion by organizing a quarter-final meeting with Eintracht Frankfurt.
Winning the Europa League would put an end to the 17 -year -old trophy of Spurs and qualify them for next year's Champions League -OPTA places their chances of winning the competition at 17 percent.
Spurs has only won one of their last 13 major European quarter -final matches, but have been bold in two previous home games against the opponents of Thursday Frankfurt.
“Even the good stuff that we can do has changed to the rhetoric of glasses half empty,” Postecoglou continued. “That can't be a driver. The boys want to bring success in the club, so that the principles of this journey continue to stimulate in terms of playing our football.
“Hopefully we worked our way to a position where we can have an impact on a disappointing season. I don't think I can win the argument of convincing people. The general sentiment of people is even when I win [the Europa League] I'm gone anyway.
“We are in a quarterfinals, we don't want us to let us throw away or have the wrong mindset. I think the players handle it well and embrace the challenge.”
The injuries of Tottenham are considerably relaxed, but the most important Miss will be Dejan Kulusevski, who has three target contributions in Europe this year, while Kevin Danso also remains absent.
Postecoglou added: “We got ourselves in a position in which we get the chance to continue to the last phases. We have to concentrate on having strong home performance.
“It is important that we play the football that we want to play, we let ourselves be maintained again.
'I said before [criticism] Is not what drives me. I came up with a clear vision – changed the way the team plays to rejuvenate the team because it came at the end of a cycle. Regardless of noise, I don't see why my ambition and desire to make that happen.
“Everything you achieve in life usually comes with a struggle. This is just a different struggle. I never thought I lost the will to fight. I will continue to do that.”
