Postecoglou insists he ‘won’t be holding anyone to account’ after Wolves defeat

Ange Postecoglou refused to blame his Tottenham players for the individual mistakes that the heavy defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

“Mistakes are part of the game, I will not keep anyone in mind,” said the Spursbaas at Molineux. 'It's not like they do it on purpose, so you have a household name.

“I would probably be more frustrated if it was something we did from a tactical or organizational perspective.”

Postecoglou supported his goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who made a shaky start of the game, in error for the opener by Rayan Ait-Nouri and his own goal from Djed Spence, who gave Wolves a 2-0 lead.

“I have 100 percent faith in him,” he said, when he was asked about Vicario, and Cristian Romero and Lucas Bergvall, who lost possession in dangerous areas that led the third and fourth goals respectively.

'They are two fantastic football players. The two in particular are quite reliable in those situations.

'We have made some individual mistakes, which was a bit unusual for us, honest to say. They all happened in one game and unfortunately we were punished.

'It is clearly a disappointing result and a funny game because our football was for the most part considering all the changes. We checked large parts of it, were a threat in the future and did not give them too much.

“But then we clearly admitted some pretty bad goals and that made it very difficult.”

Postecoglou made six changes to Wolves with the Europa League Quarter Final Second -Thursday at Eintracht Frankfurt in mind.

“You always try to do the right thing,” he said. “What is important is that we have some game time with some players, we have a few rest and hopefully that will bring us good condition for Thursday evening.”

Dejan Kulusevski returned as a replacement, his first performance after six weeks.

“We will see,” he said when he was asked if Kulusevski could start in Frankfurt. “It was good for Deki, Richarlison and Matty Tel to get minutes.”
