‘Postecoglou is the right man’ to take Tottenham forward, says Kulusevski

Dejan Kulusevski gave his confidence in Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou and insisted that he is the right man to help the club move forward despite a bad form.

Tottenham returns to the European action against the Swedish side Elfsborg in the Europa League on Thursday, hoping to strengthen their place in the top eight of the rankings.

They are sixth in the table after seven games and know that a victory is a must to guarantee their automatic progression to the Tour of the 16 -Phase tournament.

However, in the match, they come on the back of a 2-1 defeat against Leicester City, so that they stay in 15th place in the Premier League and eight points above the relegation zone.

Spurs have even won none of their last seven top-flight games (D1 L6), their longest Windless Run in the top flight since a stint of nine games between May and October 2008.

The recent series of results of Tottenham has seen the pressure pile in Postecoglou, but Kulusevsky believes that the former Celtic boss can get the club out of their current rut.

“We had matches where we showed perfect football, football that could not play many teams. We played beautiful matches against United, City Away 4-0,” Kulusevski told reporters.

“I think he is the right man. We want to win for him … I have to fight for him because I also believe in that football. I think he is the right man.

“Opinions change, I don't listen to someone. I know the truth, I see the truth on my part. It is not important what people say, it has never been.

“The competition is very bad and the game on Sunday was difficult to lose. You have to stand clearly and concentrate on the goals.”

But Postecoglou confirmed his conviction that Spurs can still succeed this season, after he said earlier that he “always wins trophies in his second season”.

Tottenham led 1-0 in their EFL Cup semi-final collision with Liverpool, which will enter the second stage next week, and have a good chance in this year's Europa League.

Opta's data-conducted simulations Hand Postecoglou's side of an 11%chance of winning the competition, with only athletic Bilbao (11%) and Lazio (21%) arranged higher.

Prior to the opposite Elfsborg at home, Spurs are unbeaten in 16 home games in all European games since a 1-0 loss for RB Leipzig in February 2020.

“I agree with him. We are doing very well in the cups, it is easy to concentrate on the competition, but we are really doing well in the cups,” said Kulusevski about the chances of spurs on a trophy.

“Tomorrow is an important game and when we win we will be on to the next round, so I think we can do big things in the last four months.”
