Tottenham -Baas Ange Postecoglou said that he had not had any discussions with the club about his future, despite the end of a long trophy -dried by winning the Europa League title and qualify for the Champions League.
Spurs ended on Wednesday a painful 17-year-old trophy-dried when they defeated Manchester United 1-0 to win the Europa League title and to be eligible for the Champions League, despite the 17th in the Premier League.
The title was a justification for Postecoglou, who had said earlier this season that he always won trophies in his second season with a team.
His future at the club, however, remains unclear, even after he promised Spurs fans that “season three is better than season two”. The 59-year-old Australian, who signed a four-year contract when he came on board in June 2023, said he had not spoken with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.
“Someone rightly pointed out, sometimes they kill the main character, so that I could conflict there,” Postecoglou said reporters with a smile on Saturday.
“I am not going to set a limit to what we can achieve, but I certainly believe it is exciting, knowing the possibilities of next year that I now have a group of players and a club and a club that knows what is needed to win.
“I had no discussions with the club … Maybe they just waited for clear air to give me some guidance, but I have not heard from the club.”
When he followed if he would be in the club next season, Postecoglou said he hadn't thought much about it.
“I assume someone will tell me something at some point,” he added.
“If that is not the case, I will just roll up next year and I look a bit like (George) Costanza of (television program) Seinfeld, I just sit down at the desk and continue my work.”
The club held an open-top bus victory parade on Friday, when thousands of fans were the streets outside their stadium to celebrate, but they have to quickly shift the focus to Sunday's home game against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Although most of their players look worse for wear after exuberant parties, Postecoglou chuckled and said they would set a team, but underlined the importance of celebrating the title.
“As I got older, and I was a bit different, but I really feel that you should celebrate your performance well and that was a kind of my message to the boys,” Postecoglou said.
“It is really important, because once they have reached it and they have done it in a very difficult way, it is important for the people around them, because they can relax and enjoy it.
“And it is important to make the experience as memorable as possible, so that when I ask them to climb the mountain again, there is a reason for it.
“Honestly to say that they have taken my words literally and have certainly enjoyed it in recent days and, like all parties, there is always one family member who embarrasses and you want to keep control of … We had a few!”
