Postecoglou: We probably got it wrong at the start of the year

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou has suggested that the biggest mistake of their season attacked with too much strength at the start of the year.

Spurs are currently 14th in the Premier League, after they have lost 15 of their 29 games and travel to Chelsea on Thursday after a hiatus almost three weeks.

After having won only three of their last 13 games in the Premier League, they are 21 years old for their lowest league position since he became 14th in 2003-04.

“I think the Domino effect of certain things happens. You try to judge things while you continue, but my tendency is that we probably got the start of the year wrong,” Postecoglou said.

“Nowadays it is always challenging for football players.

“Then you add to the mix that we have previously lost a number of important players and it feels like we have been chasing our tail since then and we have not been able to get a solid ground.

“Much of that goes back to the beginning of the year, maybe we would have followed a different approach, knowing that we had the season.”

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca meanwhile spoke about the gap between herself and the teams at the top of the Premier League after the 1-0 defeat on his side at Arsenal in their last league match.

“It's pretty big,” said Maresca, when he was asked about the gap between Arsenal and Chelsea. “The reason why is because they work with the same manager for five years.

“The difference is very important. With the same players they already played for a number of important games.

“But our target, our duty is to close that gap between us and them. At the moment the table simply says the difference between us and them, it is six points, if I am not wrong.”

It is a big one at the bridge.
