Potter urges West Ham to ‘lift the level’ ahead of final game

Graham Potter has challenged West Ham to find a different level while preparing for their last Premier League match of the season against Ipswich Town.

The Hammers travel to Portman Road in search of successive roads on Sunday, after they defeated Manchester United 2-0 in their last game on the road.

However, that is their only victory in 10 after a 2-1 defeat against Nottingham Forest in their last home game of the season last weekend, with West Ham 15th in the table with 40 points.

And Potter now wants to sign on a high but acknowledged that West Ham needs a great improvement if they want.

“We have to do better. That is what it is. That is the challenge for us,” said Potter.

“We have to lift the level because you can't be waiting for the margins. You have to let them run. But that's fine. That's what we know.

“We feel that we have made the team more competitive [since he arrived]And every game that we have been competitive.

“But nevertheless the points, what we want to do, is not as big as we would like. Having said that, we have taken some steps, but not enough.”

In the meantime, Ipswich fell to the 19th in the table after last weekend's 2-0 defeat to Leicester City.

Since the turn of the year, they have registered only one victory-a 2-1 victory over Bournemouth in early April while their last home gain returned to Chelsea on December 30.

Ipswich had many chances against Leicester, but did not succeed in taking them, and Kieran McKenna hopes they are more lucky for the goal because they look to win a final victory before they return to the championship.

“That [beating West Ham] Must be the focus the next week, “he told BBC Sport.

“We are really desperate to win a home victory, and we will have to work very hard this week to ensure that we get that.”

Players to watch

Ipswich Town – Julio Enciso

Ipswich had 20 shots in their defeat against Leicester City, their most in a Premier League match this season.

Julio Enciso was responsible for four of them and was one of only two players to get a shot on goal (together with George Hirst). The Argentinian, which had 39 touches in that game, also created two chances.

West Ham – Jarrod Bowen

Jarrod Bowen scored for the second time in three consecutive Premier League matches, after this also in April 2021.

In the meantime, only Mohamed Salah (55%) has been involved in a larger part of the total Premier League goals of his party this season than Bowen (44% – 19/43).
