Premier League season predictions: Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville pick the teams and players to watch in 2025/26

On Monday evening football, Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville spoke their Premier League seasers forecasts from 2025/26.

Title winners

Gary Neville – Arsenal (but it's too close to calls)

I couldn't separate Arsenal, Manchester City or Liverpool. I think they are absolutely all in the same opportunity to win it.

Arsenal has been consistent for the past three years, they have been second. I feel that they are coming at some point.

Liverpool, the two full-backs must settle. They look a bit open. They will be exciting to look. They are going to score many goals.

City has an incredible spine.

I went for the team that I have been going on for the past three years, they are reliable and solid and consistent, which is important. They just have to sort that forward part of the pitch and I think Viktor Gyokers will do that.

Jamie Carragher – Liverpool, for Man City

What I saw in the community shield, I didn't think I would see it on Friday evening. I am sure the manager spoke with the players in the preseason [about vulnerability] On the back of the Milan game, the Community Shield and to see it in three high -profile games that took me a little worried. But as Liverpool fix that they have a great firepower.

A few days ago I thought that Arsenal would be Liverpool's biggest challengers. But the way they played [at Man Utd] Was typical arsenal of last season – the name of the game wins games – it will be interesting in the coming weeks if we open them more, create more opportunities and see how they evolved from last season.

I was really impressed by Manchester City and I think it's Manchester City who might be the best challengers of Liverpool.

Top four finishers

Neville – Man City, Liverpool, Man Utd

I've been doing this for eight years now and I have always had man in the top four every year!

It was a late change, but with a little science … When I looked at United against Arsenal, I thought the performance was very good. I think they get a keeper and with those players in front, without Champions League of Europa League, I think Man Utd will surprise a few people. If you perform that way, you win many football matches.

And I am not sure whether Chelsea will find it just as easily with the club World Cup, European games, all demands thereof.

CARRIJFHER – MAN City, Arsenal, Chelsea

I think you should be very careful with dragging one version. Man Utd lost and in no stage of the game I thought that Man Utd was going to score a goal. They played really well, the best I have seen for a long time, there was pace and energy in the team, the players they bought have something … but that is a big leap from 15th to fourth. The manager still has a lot to prove. I don't see man utd that high.

Surprise Euro -community

Neville – Nottingham Forest

If Bos would repeat what they were doing last year, they would be a huge result for them. That was a huge over -range and over performance last year. They hit well above their weight. It would be a big surprise to go inside. They have many very good players, they have a good game system, an efficient playing system that can win many football matches.

Exile

Neville – Leeds, Burnley, Wolves

Brentford is consistent in this competition. I don't think Burnley will have enough. Daniel Farke and their owner said that Leeds will sign players so that they could sign two or three and that could change his mind. Sunderland – I saw something that was further than just passion, I saw a physicality, a quality for them, a force. I thought that was a good achievement. Maybe this can be the year for wolves …

CARRIJFHER – Wolves, Sunderland, Burnley

It is easy to place the three promoted teams there. I am desperate that someone stays up. I don't want to talk about the three [promoted] Teams go down. I think Leeds, because of Elland Road, [can stay up]. Am I convinced that wolves are being relegated? Not really. I think the manager is top. They have lost a number of major players, but the manager is a good manager.

Danger zone

Neville – Brentford

It will be difficult for Brentford. If you think of the players they have lost, Yoane Wissa may also be. That eats a lot from their team. We have loved Brentford in recent years, but this can be their most difficult season.

CARRIJFHER – West Ham

It was not a great ending last season, the team looks slow and old. The lack of legs in midfield was really noticeable [against Sunderland]. Against a promoted team, to be run over as they did, it loses the physical challenges, it will be difficult.

Top scorer

CARRIJFHER – Erling Haaland

Mohamed Salah might have his biggest season last season. Certainly on the same footing with his first season. It would be difficult to replicate that. Haaland is the best center-forward in the Premier League. His numbers are not on the scale.

Impact Signing

Neville – Viktor Gyokees

I thought he had made some runs and I didn't think he was found sometimes. I didn't think they played passages in him or are crossed for him that suit him. I thought he caused Matthijs de Ligt problems in moments. I think De Ligt had a brilliant game against him and really marked him well. I think he will cause huge problems.

He is what Arsenal needs there. Was he brilliant on Sunday? No. But it is his first game in the Premier League away at Old Trafford. It is difficult to come to Manchester and to win and play well. Thierry Henry used to come to Old Trafford and sometimes did not get a kick. I think he did well.

CARRIJFHER – Florian Wirtz

It is a deal that is brilliant for the Premier League. How often do we see a player from the Bundesliga to Bayern Munich who looks like the top player? For Liverpool was fantastic to get that deal. He was finished on Friday and was probably not on his best, but he still had a few silky details that, when you play it, there is something. Now that Kevin De Bruyne went, we needed a superstar to get into that position in the competition and I think he could do that.

Player to watch

CARRIJFHER – ESTEVAO

He already has Brazilian caps, he was fantastic in the club World Cup against Chelsea, he looks pretty special. Sometimes I don't feel that there has been so much upgrade [with Chelsea signings]. It is almost as if you are exchanging for the sake of exchanging. He is still a young player and is not the completed article, but he was one of them where you think, it won't take too long before he is the first choice.

Neville – Adrien Truffert

On Friday evening I looked at Liverpool vs Bournemouth – if you looked at a left back on the field that was the best, it was the one who wore the Bournemouth shirt. Milos Kerkez looked like he was a bit of a rash. His first game in Anfield, so you have to give him the time to settle. Truffert was brilliant. I couldn't take my eyes off him.

Manager to look

Neville – Ruben Amorim

There will be no in between – if Amorim starts poorly and they are on the 13th, 14th in October or November, he will be under enormous pressure. He has to deliver in these first few months of the season. I think he will perform. All eyes are aimed at him. Amorim has the most difficult job in English football, so he is someone to watch.

CARRIJFHER – Oliver Glasner

I think he is a top manager. He plays the same system [as Amorim]. It is very difficult for Crystal Palace to get specialists, a club of that status. Won the FA Cup, went to Europe, looked at Chelsea and against Liverpool in the Community Shield, they defeated Man City in the FA Cup final … He knows that system from within. That guy Glasner certainly knows that system better than Ruben Amorim.

Sky Sports to show 215 Live PL games next season
