Premier League target Elye Wahi set to join Eintracht Frankfurt

Marseille striker Elye Wahi, 22, is closing in on a move to Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, according to a report from Foot Mercato. The outlet understands that the Ligue 1 club are close to reaching an agreement with their Bundesliga counterparts on a permanent move for the France U21 international. West Ham United and Bournemouth AFC were reportedly monitoring Wahi's situation. Wahi is on the verge of signing for a third club in just two seasons.

After his breakthrough years in Montpellier, Wahi signed for RC Lens on a €30 million contract 18 months ago. He left Artois to join their Ligue 1 rivals Marseille, with Les Phocéens agreeing a similar transfer fee of €30 million, taking into account €5 million in performance-related add-ons. Wahi has played a mainly peripheral role under the tutelage of Roberto De Zerbi as the Italian manager is reliant on Neal Maupay to take charge. Wahi scored three goals and one assist in thirteen games for Les Phocéens.

Marseille were reportedly reluctant to part ways with Wahi just months after his signing. But Eintracht's big sale of Omar Marmoush for €80 million to Manchester City completely changed the situation as Dino Töppmoller's side plan to reinvest new money to replace the free-scoring Egyptian sensation. Eintracht Frankfurt have reportedly made a bid close to the €25 million Marseille paid last summer, prompting Les Phocéens to give the green light for Wahi's departure. Foot Mercato understands that OM could now scour the market for a centre-forward.
