PSG 4-2 Man City: Hosts move into top 24 at expense of Citizens with this win

The match is over and the final score is PSG 4-2 Man City. Here is the match report.

Match report

Manchester City's chances of progressing in the Champions League are in serious jeopardy after they lost a two-goal lead and collapsed against Paris St-Germain at the Parc des Princes.

On a scorching, rainy evening in Paris, all the weaknesses that have dogged City in a season of decline were laid bare as Pep Guardiola's side collapsed dramatically in the face of PSG's pace and creation.

City's defeat means they are at risk of elimination from the Champions League as they sit in 25th place and need to win their final match at home to Club Brugge.

It was pure theater in Paris after Manchester City appeared to have turned the match in their favor when substitute Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland struck twice in the first eight minutes of the second half.

However, PSG had City's defense on their nerves all night and hit back straight away when substitute Ousmane Dembele and Bradley Barcola leveled the match before the hour mark.

Dembele then hit the crossbar before the excellent Joao Neves headed home Vitinha's free-kick after being left unmarked, and City's pain was compounded in stoppage time when, after a lengthy check from the video assistant referee (VAR ), Goncalo Ramos' powerful attack netted the score. a more realistic appearance.

City barely deserved the lead that Grealish and Haaland's close finishes had given them, but PSG's strength, pace and quality saw them embark on the dramatic comeback that deepened the gloom that has surrounded the Premier League champions this season .

MANCHESTER CITY face a final battle on Wednesday night to avoid a humiliating Champions League exit.

And Pep Guardiola's men have only themselves to blame after collapsing again.

They threw away leads three times in four European matches, leaving their fate in this competition hanging by a thread.

Just 19 months after winning the trophy, they find themselves outside the top 24 with one league match remaining.

They will need to beat Club Brugge at the Etihad to secure a last-16 play-off – and the way this season has gone is anything but certain.

Here they seemed to be cruising as substitute Jack Grealish scored one in the second half and created another in the opening minutes of the second half.

But the home side leveled within seven minutes and then won through a late header from Joao Neves.

And to make matters worse in injury time, substitute Goncalo Ramos curled in a fourth in stoppage time, which was ultimately awarded after a lengthy VAR check.

No one could really say that the French side didn't deserve it either as they put up an exciting battle and at times overwhelmed their old rivals.

These two teams met in the semi-finals just four years ago and have been two of the favorites for the competition in recent years.

They've had some memorable fights over the years and this one was as exciting as any.

After losing their lead at Sporting Lisbon, at home to Feyenoord and now here, City have let themselves down.

And who could have predicted that when they were given a friendly looking fixture schedule in August.

Guardiola knew this was a huge test against his good friend and former teammate Luis Enrique – and it showed.

The French giants have also struggled in Europe, but as usual they are on course to win the French league comfortably and have recently found their way back to form.

And it showed early on as they went for the English champions from the start – and Joao Neves could have given them an early lead but planted his header over the crossbar.

At the other end, Savinho's shot was blocked by Marquinhos and it looked like he had hit a hand, but nothing was given.

Kevin De Bruyne was far behind on the rebound, but home keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma came down well and made the save.

Phil Foden worked his way into some space on the right and crossed, but Erling Haaland couldn't get enough power on his header which went straight to the Italian keeper.

But with the home crowd cheering on, PSG were always a threat and Vitinha curled a shot just wide before Josko Gvardiol came back to clear Fabian Ruiz's effort off the line.

City's best chance of the first half came from Foden rolling the ball into Savinho's path and he pulled off a smart low save from Donnarumma in the home goal.

The French side thought they were ahead on the stroke of half-time when they cut through City and Nuno Mendes' cross ended up at the feet of Achraf Hakimi, who struck home.

However, the celebrations were cut short by VAR as Mendes – a target for Manchester United – was narrowly offside.

However, it was a huge test for the visitors in the first half; they were left hanging by a thread in the last 24.

Guardiola made changes at half-time, bringing on Grealish and Rico Lewis, possibly looking to gain more control in the game.

But Ruben Dias' second-half omission was a new concern for City in a season full of them.

Still, getting Grealish up and running proved to be an inspired move.

Akanji burst into the penalty area on the right and scored squarely for Bernardo Silva, whose shot was blocked by the home keeper.

But the ball fell perfectly to the English ace, who swept the ball in from twelve yards.

And three minutes later he was involved again when Matheus Nunes played him in from the left and his low cross went into Haaland's path.

The Norwegian would never miss that again before his 23rd of the season and City had breathing space.

In previous years it might have been enough, but not this one.

Credit to the home side for hanging in there and they were back in it when Bradley Barcola nutmegged Nunes and swept home substitute Ousmane Dembele.

You almost knew what was going to happen and sure enough, Desire Doue's curler beat Ederson and hit the crossbar, but Barcola forced the rebound in off the post

Four goals in ten extraordinary minutes and now it was the home side who looked by far the most likely winner.

Dembele put it through Bernardo's legs before smashing a shot against the crossbar from a narrow angle, with Ederson barely seeing it.

So it was no surprise when Vitinha's free-kick found its way to the back post, where an unmarked Joao Neves headed home.

Bedlam in the Parc des Princes. The comeback was complete and City could not complain.
