Luis Enrique admits that PSG is afraid of the “fighter jets” from Liverpool prior to what he predicts will be one of “the best matches in Europe”.
The PSG head coach is concerned about the pace of the Reds attack in the first stage of their Champions League Last-16 draw. Laverpool arrived in the French capital last night with Cody Gakpo a doubt after he had missed the training on Merseyside earlier in the day.
But the Reds still have the red -hot Mo Salah, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota under their options for the enormous collision in the Parc des Princes.
“Liverpool has one of the best counterattacks in Europe, so we will try to keep the ball and be careful that they do not suffer too much against transitions,” Enrique said. “They have three fighter jets and it is not easy to stop these fighter jets.”
Salah will certainly fly 30 goals and 22 assists this season while they run away with the Premier League title and at the top of the Champions League group phase.
“We are confronted with the team that played the best football in the group stage,” said Enrique. “They were the most consistent side.
“Arne Slot has done a great job. He has created an almost perfect team, knows how to defend, knows how to press, that can attack by holding the ball or accelerating.”
In a rare recording, Enrique admitted that Liverpool may have the light edge.
PSG has been on an unbeaten run of 22 games since a loss of 1-0 in Bayern Munich at the end of November. The Ligue 1 Giants have won their last 10 games with an eye-sly 40 goals scored in a successfully re-formed attack since the departure of Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid.
January Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Bradley Barcola are expected to play in addition to Ousmane Dembele at attack.
“The advantage of our attackers is that they can play in any position,” said Enrique. “It is difficult for our opponents to play with the pressure in Parc des Princes.
“The atmosphere is extraordinary and I hope we can benefit from it. On paper it is one of the best competitions you can watch in Europe. “
