PSG must improve despite breaking Milan away record, says Luis Enrique

Luis Enrique believes that his Paris Saint-Germain team still has room to improve, despite sealing the Ligue 1 title and adding another record to their name on Tuesday.

PSG was held on a 1-1 draw with Nantes in the Stade de la Beaujoire, while Vitinha saw his first half strike canceled by Douglas Augusto seven minutes from time.

The result saw that the Parisens extended their undefeated competition run to 39 games, for the last time lost in the French top flight in a 3-1 defeat in Monaco in February 2023.

The side of Luis Enrique is now holding the longest undefeated rack in the history of the top five European competitions and defeated the 38 of AC Milan between 1991 and 1993.

“It is important to talk about this record and the players from that time. We are at the level of Milan. We are talking about the record for unbeaten gone,” said Luis Enrique.

“A team of our caliber cannot afford to make mistakes. We can still improve and do even better. We should have won the game, and a small detail has made the difference.”

In a slow first half, PSG found it difficult to break down the strict defensive rear -guard of Nantes, but found a way through Vitinha's low half volley just after half an hour.

However, the hosts looked more aggressive after the break and were rightly leveled as Augusto after good work by Matthis Abline.

Goncalo Ramos came painfully close to the nets of a late winner in front of Luis Enrique, but his break-time header was channeled of the bar.

PSG ended with an expected goals (XG) a total of 1.6 of their 10 shots, but they have now admitted 20 goals of the second half, the highest percentage in Ligue 1 (71%).

“I am very irritated because admitting a goal is always frustrating for a keeper,” said Gianluigi Donnarumma after the full -time whistle.

“We have to improve our ball retention so that we don't lose the possession. The team played a great game.

“We have managed the ball well. We have to keep it up. We have to continue on Friday against Nice and then in the Champions League.”
