PSG need to improve to avoid Champions League elimination according to Enrique

Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique was happy with his side's 3-0 win against RB Salzburg in the Champions League on Tuesday, but still thinks they need to improve if they want to avoid elimination.

The French champions had not won a game in the league since a 1-0 win at home to Girona on Matchday 1, meaning they had slipped out of the play-off positions prior to their most recent win.

While Tuesday's win moved them into the final play-off place ahead of Wednesday's matches, they still have Manchester City and Stuttgart to await in the new year.

With Paris Saint-Germain having collected seven points from their first six games, Enrique believes they must do better to reach the knockout rounds.

“Football is a pretty unfair sport. The standings are quite tight. A goal can make the difference and we still have two important games ahead of us. We could still be out,” he said.

“This was not a better match than PSV or Atletico Madrid, I would even say it was worse, but that is football.

“We know we have to improve and the team hasn't changed much. We need points and we will try to win the next games.”

Despite lobbying for improvements from his side, Enrique made time to recognize Nuno Mendes' performances in Salzburg after the defender scored the second goal.

“Nuno brings different solutions to his physical and technical qualities. He can complete the triangle at the back as well as play up front. He currently plays higher up. He brings a lot offensively. But that could change,” he said.
