PSG plans for 60k-seater ‘world’s best stadium’ & site on racecourse identified
A CHAMPIONS LEAGUE giant has announced plans for a new 60,000-seater stadium.
Paris Saint-Germain could ditch the iconic Parc des Princes for a “truly great stadium”.
The Ligue 1 champions have looked at three locations the club could move to.
This also applies to Saint-Cloud Racecourse, but this option can be complicated due to the limited resources available to manage fans.
It is less than three miles from PSG's current home.
The club also looked at Montigny-le-Bretonneux, a commune in the southwestern suburbs of Paris.
Moving there would be more significant as it is 15 miles away.
The furthest place from the Parc des Princes is the land in Poissy of Stellantis.
This would be even further away for PSG, at 29 kilometers away.
Club chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi has insisted PSG are “backing” their European rivals.
“We are Paris Saint-Germain. A football club [that]…we need a really great stadium.
'The best stadium in the world. We need that for Financial Fair Play.
“All other European clubs have built bigger, more modern stadiums. We support everyone.”
Al-Khelaifi also revealed that the Paris city council will not let the club buy the rented Parc des Princes.
He added: “It's the city [Government] that has already been decided for us
“They won't let PSG buy the Parc des Princes, which is rented out.”
PSG has played at the Parc des Princes since 1973, a year after the current version of the ground opened.
A move to a 60,000 capacity ground would give almost 12,000 more fans access to games, up from the maximum 48,583 at the current ground.
