PSG star leaves Liverpool fans furious with antics after Champions League win

Liverpool supporters remained furious with the celebrations of Achraf Hakimi after Paris Saint-Germain had beaten the Premier League leaders from the Champions League.

Morocco right back Hakimi played the full 120 minutes when PSG recovered from a defeat on the first leg to get their English opponents better. Ousmane Dembele's first half goal has canceled the efforts of Harvey Elliott from the first stage, and Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones both failed when Liverpool lost 4-1 to penalties.

Arne Slot's Reds finished on top of the pile after the competition phase, forced with PSG to go through a play-off against Brest. The side of Luis Enrique, however, is on fire in 2025, with that first leg reversed their only defeat in 19 games.

Les Parisiens will play Aston Villa or Club Brugge in the quarterfinals, while Liverpool will soon have to recover for the final of the Carabao Cup on Sunday. Frustrations were clear full-time, but the anger of the fans increased when Hakimi fourth by stopping a PSG flag.

The gesture of Hakimi was met by some in the head. It was just a frustration for home support after a frustrating evening, where the Reds created much more than in the first stage, but were unable to find a way along Donnarumma.

Liverpool then won the Champions League in the 2018-19 season after locking Hoorns with PSG in the group phase. The Ligue 1 holders will hope that they can do the honor this time, after they fell into the semi-final phase last season.

Aston Villa are their likely opponents in the last eight after winning 3-1 in Belgium in their own first stage. However, as PSG showed Tuesday, home advantage is not everything and all end in the second stage.

PSG -Manager Luis Enrique remained confidence in progressing the defeat of his team and that optimism was justified with the success at Anfield. In conversation with Amazon Prime after the penalty shootout, however, he argued that “both teams deserve to go to the next phase”.

“They play better here than we, but I think my team in Anfield showed a great personality and character in a special stadium,” added the Spaniard. “We tried to play our best, but it was difficult because they are so intense. Both teams deserve to qualify.

“The character and personality, even when we shoot at the penalty shootout, they showed a great character. I think it clearly shows the team that we are.”

Luis Enrique has previously won the Champions League as a manager, with his Barcelona team that Juventus defeated in the 2015 final. In this year he could still be confronted with his former employers after Lamine Yamal Barca had been a 4-1 total victory over Benfica.
