PSG struggle to find ideal area for €1bn+ future stadium

According to a report from Le Parisien, PSG are struggling to find an ideal area to build their future stadium. The Ligue 1 champions have confirmed through their president Nasser Al-Khelaifi that their historic home in the Parc des Princes was no longer fit for purpose. The ECA chairman also added that the construction of a huge new, state-of-the-art stadium was crucial to PSG's long-term interests. Al-Khelaifi and Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo also disagree about the Parc des Princes. The former accuses the latter of lying to him about the possibility of selling the land to Les Parisiens.

As it stands, the plug has been pulled on any expansion work at the Parc des Princes, with PSG looking to close the gap with their European rivals, who boast modern and privately owned grounds of over 60,000 and want to increase their revenue streams enlarge. Le Parisien reports that several architectural firms are working on PSG's new home and that Al-Khelaifi is “impressed” by the different models of modularly designed stadiums, ranging between 50,000 and 90,000 seats, that he was shown.

PSG also plans to build shops, restaurants, a clinic and a smaller stadium – for the women's team – next to their new ground. The newspaper understands that Al-Khelaifi is aware that this billion-plus euro project will take almost ten years to complete. However, PSG don't really know where to start yet, given their struggle to find a location in the Greater Paris region that meets all their criteria. PSG's new home should have good road and transport links and be as close as possible to Paris and PSG's state-of-the-art training center in Poissy.
