Luis Enrique said that Ousmane Dembele will miss the journey from Paris Saint-Germain to Strasbourg, but hopes to have him back for their semi-final second stage of the Champions League.
Dembele scored the only goal in PSG's 1-0 win on the first legs on Arsenal, but was replaced by Bradley Barcola after picking up a hamstring tribe in the 70th minute.
This season, the Frenchman has in good shape for the Luis Enrique team and registers 43 targets (33 goals, 10 assists) in all competitions.
Indeed, only Robert Lewandowski (40), Harry Kane (36) and Kylian Mbappe (34) have scored more than Dembele in Europe's top five competitions in all competitions.
After closing the Ligue 1 title, PSG makes the journey to the Stade de la Meinau to combat on Saturday from Strasbourg in a search to retain their undefeated run.
PSG confirmed Dembele's injury and that is “conditioning well”, with further assessments that must be performed in the coming days.
“He won't play tomorrow, that's for sure,” Luis Enrique said reporters, while he also refused to confirm whether he will rotate his team with the Ligue 1 title in the bag.
“We are going to do what we have done so far, with the same idea. Nothing has changed.
“The most important thing is that every minute wearing the PSG sweater is useful for matches in other games.”
PSG lost their chance to go undefeated a full competition season when they have lost a 3-1 defeat by Nice, although they have not lost back-to-back Ligue 1 matches since April 2023.
However, the Parisiens can expand their undefeated run from home in Ligue 1 to 40 games (W30 D9 so far).
This would be more than the two longest such runs combined by other French teams (21 for Lyon between March 2005 and April 2006, 18 for St. Etienne from August 1980 to July 1981 and Marseille between January 2008 and January 2009).
But Luis Enrique was not interested in that record, with his full focus on their second stage against Arsenal on Wednesday and their Coupé de France final against Reims.
“It is a competition that we prepare for in the Champions League, in the Coupe de France, not for the unbeaten record,” he said.
“It would be great to win the game in Strasbourg, but the motivation is to prepare for the Champions League match, not to break an undefeated record.”
In recent years, PSG has fallen in the Knockout phases of the Champions League and have the opportunity to return to the final the second time while haunting a treble.
“We want to achieve this goal to play this final, but there is still the semi -final second stage,” said Luis Enrique, who previously won the Treble in Barcelona.
“There is not much time to rest, you have to manage all this. We, the coaches, go for the best. I have been a coach at a top level for several years and it is part of the work.”
