Wolfsburg head coach Tommy Stroot emphasized how important his Silk Women's Champions League Quarte final against Barcelona was for both teams for the first stage on Wednesday.
The German side qualified for the last eight after he finished second in group A, after he won three and lost three of their six games.
They come to the back of a 3-1 defeat against Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, but Stroot appreciates the seriousness of this tournament.
“I think Barca absolutely wants to win this title, the Champions League. This is a situation in which they have a lot to play for, and we have a lot to play for,” he said.
“The Bayern game was a defeat that hurt, but also a competition that was decided at specific moments. In large competitions such as the quarterfinals of the Champions League, it is important to be there at the important moments.”
The mood of Strott is reflected by Wolfsburg Vooruit Lineth Beerensteyn, who suggested that the players went into the game in a good mood and had brought the previous result out of their mind.
“Everyone has a good feeling. Of course we know that it will be a difficult game,” she said.
“But we are mentally and physically ready. We have had good training sessions and are all looking forward to this great game.”
The two teams have not met each other since 2023, which Barcelona came down from two goals to win 3-2 in Eindhoven.
