Former Real Madrid star and the Dutch International Rafael van der Vaart responded to Lamine Yamal, after the 17-year-old had expressed an emphatic way against him. During the Spanish Nations League victory on penalties about the Netherlands, after a 5-5 aggregated draw, Lamine Yamal devoted both his party and a social media post to Van der Vaart's criticism of him.
Van der Vaart had noticed after the first leg that Ajax defender Jorrel Hato had the 17-year-old 'in his pocket'. Although the pressure of Lamine Yamal did result in the opening goal for La Roja in Rotterdam, Van der Vaart explained that he had “seen some things he didn't like,” as his “pants lowered,” and accused him of overs confidence.
After a brilliant goal in extra time, Lamine Yamal lowered his shorts in the celebration and placed a screenshot from Van der Vaart on Instagram with a caption that was also aimed at him. Van der Vaart, however, was asked for his reaction and seemed to have not changed his opinion.
“I would advise Lamine Yamal not to worry about what a former overweight player says,” Van der Vaart responded to Ziggo Sport, as quoted by relevant.
“At the age of 17, with so much praise, you think the world is turning around you. It happened to us all, but it is not the case. Football is fun, but not important. If you think you are a kind of God, you will not believe.”
Certainly, Lamine Yamal cannot be accused of missing trust, and sometimes, just like with his punishment, it may have hurt him. His self -confidence, however, has so far been one of his best virtues to prove, because he came to the professional scene, allowing him to perform in the largest stages and make a difference on many occasions. Undoubtedly, Hansi Flick and Luis de la Fuente follow every movement to guard against that confidence that overflows.
