Boxing Results: Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano: An Epic Battle

Arlington, Texas – The highly anticipated rematch between two of the best female boxers took place on one of the biggest stages ever. The bout served as the co-main event of the global boxing event between headliners Jake Paul and Mike Tyson.

Netflix reported staggering numbers: 60 million households watched the main event and 50 million households watched the epic battle between Katie Taylor (24-1, 6 KOs) and Amanda Serrano (47-3-1, 31 KOs). With 72,000 in attendance at AT&T Stadium, the game was the most watched women's sporting event in history.

Amanda Serrano applied smart pressure and nearly scored a knockdown in the first round, stunning Katie Taylor with a hard left hand. Katie appeared affected by the blow for the first three rounds, looking slightly stunned and still recovering from the blow. An unusually slow start.

Katie was hesitant and cautious; It wasn't until Serrano suffered a nasty cut on her right eye that Taylor began trading heavily with Serrano. The cut was the result of one of several headbutts delivered by Taylor Serrano. The fight itself was a war, with both fighters throwing 1,263 punches between the two. Amanda defeated Taylor 324 to 217 respectively.

Lands 58.2 percent of her punches. Taylor's face showed the ferocity of Serrano's punches at the post-fight press conference. Taylor required stitches and had swelling on most of her face – with swollen eyes, lips, nose and forehead.

Serrano suffered minimal damage, with the exception of the nasty cut on her right eye. The two fought to a controversial decision, with Taylor receiving a unanimous decision despite a point deduction for excessive head-butting in round 8. All three judges scored it 95-94 for Taylor.

The first match undoubtedly looked much closer than the second as Serrano appeared to have earned an early lead. However, the controversial decision should not detract from the match between two great fighters who gave everything. Neither gave in and demonstrated to the world why they are two of the best boxers in the world.

At the post-fight press conference, both promoters Eddie Hearn and Nakisa Bidarian expressed interest in a third bout, expressing the desires of both Taylor and Serrano. If there is a third match, it should be just as great as the first two. Both have a warrior spirit and should be commended for their efforts. It is rare to see major fights, much rarer to see two between the same individuals.
