Newcastle is in conversation about a move for Aston Villa Midfielder Jacob Ramsey.
Newcastle has been considering making a move for their long -term objective in recent days.
Villa wants to sell a player to help with their situation of Financial Fair Play (FFP), and as an Academy product, a Ramsey sale would represent pure profit.
Villa has tried to offer the midfielder a new deal. Sky Sports News has been told that there has not been a formal offer yet.
How good is Ramsey?
Analysis by Sky Sports' Adam Bate:
Ramsey remains a popular player at Aston Villa with the supporters of the club, the heir of Jack Grealish at a certain moment. Although foot injury has impeded its development, Unai Emery has continued to appreciate what he can bring to the team.
Although in PSR conditions he represents pure profit for Villa, Emery urged Ramsey to keep Ramsey in the club when Tottenham and Newcastle were interested in signing him in the January 2024 transfer window, which emphasized his potential to get better and better.
“Jacob Ramsey is a very important player,” said Emery. “He grew up here at the academy and his progression is clearly improving. His level is increasing a lot. He is a big potential player in Aston Villa, in England. I want to keep him here, 100 percent.”
Ramsey was then 22, but is now 24 and because of the player's own recognition that progression has not been as impressive as hoped. The top figures – one goal and five assists in the Premier League last season – were not striking, but the potential remains.
A statistics that are worth considering is that Ramsey was only in second place on Kevin De Bruyne in terms of his availability to pick up the ball between the lines. The next two players on that specific list in last season's Premier League were Phil Foden and Cole Palmer.
It refers to Ramsey's Smart Movement and are able to go into space, finding positions in the bag from which his bullet -treating power can shine. His output suggests that his teammates didn't think he was enough and when they did, he didn't do enough with it.
But there is clear enough to work with. Eddie Howe and Newcastle have the right to feel enthusiastic that this is a player who comes in his top years with the potential to bloom in the coming seasons. And there are still many in Villa Park who would agree.
