Randy Couture thinks the UFC wanted him to lose to Chuck Liddell

Blessed with phenomenal wrestling skills and an iron will to win, Randy Couture made a living winning fights the world thought he couldn't.

From his debut in the UFC, where his debut opponent outweighed him by nearly 100 pounds, to his first fight with Chuck Liddell, the Washingtonian had a knack for upsetting the apple cart.

On a night he will never forget, on June 6, 2003, at UFC 43, at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, Couture overcame all odds to stop 'The Iceman' in the third round.

Now the legend has backtracked on the fight offer and claims he believes the promotion wanted him to lose.

WOW: Randy Couture on what it was really like fighting an opponent nearly 100 pounds heavier

During an episode of Verse Us with Eric Nicksick, he said: “They called me three weeks later and said, 'Andrei Arlovski broke his hand, we can't find a replacement at this short notice, we want to know if you'll be willing to go to light to go heavyweight to fight Chuck for the interim championship, as Tito Ortiz and Chuck can't seem to get on the same page to make that fight happen. So that's how we're going to undress Tito, because he doesn't want to fight Chuck, and we actually want you to hand over Chuck.”

“That's actually what they tell me. “You've had two losses, we want to get rid of you, we think Chuck is going to knock you out.” I see the writing between the lines.

“It didn't go the way they wanted.”
