Randy Couture started to struggle to attract his father's attention
Growing up, Randy Couture did not have much of a male role model, where the future legend had very little communication with his father.
Although the American did not know much about his father, Couture had heard stories that suggested that he knew how to deal with himself.
With that in mind, in an attempt to impress his father, he began to struggle, with a zero idea of the crazy adventure it would take him.
During an interview with Burn Factory Show, the 61-year-old explained: “I grew up in a single-parent family; my mother did it all, my father was never really in the neighborhood. That was certainly a challenge and what led me to walk in the first place in a struggle. I tried to attract his attention.
“I had heard my whole life what a tough guy he was and what a good wrestler he was. Somewhere in my young spirit, I believed that if I turned out to be before the wrestling team, he might come. He would never do that.
“He never saw me struggling a competition, but I found the place where I flourished, where my friends were, and those coaches filled that emptiness and were very important guys in my life as a teenager and adult.
In the end it is fair to say that things have been worked out for the UFC champion. In addition to becoming a bona fide legend, Couture once even defeated an MMA star 100 pounds heavier than it.
