Rangers 6-0 Kilmarnock: Tavernier opens floodgates to raise pressure on Aberdeen

Rangers piled the pressure on second-placed Aberdeen as they finally found their shooting boots with a resounding 6-0 win over Kilmarnock at Ibrox.

It took Rangers 37 minutes to get a shot on target after spending most of the first half frustrated by their visitors, but once James Tavernier's rising effort put them ahead they never looked back.

The floodgates opened after half-time as Philippe Clement's men, who had previously scored just 18 goals all season, added five more in the 24 minutes of the second half to record their biggest win in the Scottish Premier League secured since beating Hamilton 8-0 in November 2020.

Danilo doubled their lead by poking Ianis Hagi's low cross past Robby McCrorie, before Hamza Igamane slotted home a third two minutes later with a powerful finish from 20 yards.

The goals continued to flow as Vaclav Cerny made it four after Nicolas Raskin's dancing run in the Kilmarnock area, before Cyril Dessers, who had come on just moments earlier, bundled Jefte's ball home through the six-yard box.

Dessers doubled his money 13 minutes from time with a simple finish to Tavernier's delivery from wide as Kilmarnock were punished for a second-half collapse after failing to put a glove on their hosts all match.
